  • La rocca is definitely one of the most characteristic places of Lugo (along with the Pavaglione, in the old town). I find it very well and has the charm of history and architecture that transmit these imposing buildings. Easy to reach: there is free parking and a surcharge.

  • The glance is undoubtedly notable, although "ruined" by a crane in the background, used for the restoration of some parts of the structure. As early as the 10th century is known for the presence of a fortified settlement, arrested at the junction of two areas of Roman centuriation (cardo and decumanus). The complex was destroyed by Faenza in the first two decades of the 1200 and rebuilt several times in the 13th and 14th centuries. The most significant period for the development of the fortification is still dominating the estense during which the connotations of defensive apparatus were modified at least twice. In the second half of the fifteenth century, on the initiative of Ercole I, the square of arms in front of the fortress was turned into a Citadel with a wall with round towers and completely enclosed by a moat. Under town planning, the fortress of Este was the hub around which the city received a strong boost to development, in the sense of stable employment in the territory. Absolutely worth visiting.

  • Beautiful building in the historical centre of Lugo. Very well maintained. Allows only foreign visit. Beautiful story region.

  • La rocca is the result of various interventions that protracted from the middle ages have until 1700 but there is no doubt that was the Duke Alfonso II d'Este to give her (between 1568 and 1570) the current look very special and interesting.
