  • This is actually one of the best and most beautiful churches of Lucca, located not in the heart. Medieval monumental made simple Romanesque arches of white marble, very impressive!

  • The Pieve di San Giorgio a Fumbling can be reached from Lucca towards Ponte a Moriano with detour for several places in "Brancoleria": square, Ombreglio, Gignano, Pieve, Deccio and Sant'Ilario. In any case, following via Pieve di Brancoli arrive directly at the square in front of the Church. It is a beautiful pieve, an example of the Romanesque style lucchese developed between the 11th century and 12th century. Made with large marble blocks with a semicircular apse and Bell Tower with mullioned Windows and mullioned Windows. Has a three naves with the beautiful Ambo and a terracotta of Della Robbia. The Church is usually closed, but there is a contact phone number on the façade to arrange the visit. Like reviewers who made reviews before me, are currently gathering signatures to ask FAI 1000 in action for the conservation of this beautiful historic building.

  • Don't expect a church as well. Emerge imposing in the solitude of the countryside, among hills and undulations cadences, the overview of Lucca, dotted with steeples and towers. Campanile invasive, crowned with battlements. Marble facing penalties defined by a Romanesque exterior. Indecipherable sculpture (man? pet?) in the middle of the side Portal: acronym Dang-allegory-theological conundrum? Who knows. Come in. Spatiality punctuated by three aisles to orchestrate a score of light and shadow. Get involved. Don't waste you in hit-and-run. Browse-you see?-a book of stone suspended between reality | symbol-present | infinity in a plastic, decorative and popular that surplus energy of everyday things and download flowered. The surprise is that realism coexists with another dimension. That naturally materializes creatures of fantasy and imagination. Architecture and sculpture take strength and motivate the educational strategy of the images (monsters, dragons, Angels, demons ...) that spicciolano in the syllabary of the irrational core of faith pages. In the dimness, browse the altars, the pulpit, the baptismal font (all original, some signed by the author, proud of his work). Seeing the 13th century painted cross della Robbia terracotta with St. George and the Dragon (not for nothing the Church is named after him. A segment of history, a book of stone between Earth and heaven. Connects you with the breath of time.
