  • Saw this today wow. Very old and at the end of a mountain climb. 1.2 miles from La Ferriera timeshare.
  • Just outside the beautiful village of Loro Ciuffenna, surrounded by beautiful countryside, is a gem: the Romanesque Pieve di Gropina, mysterious beauty. The Church is one of the most outstanding examples of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany, where the simple façade antagonizes the harmonious apse decorated, all of incomparable beauty. But it is the Interior that takes your breath away, a unique space where beauty merges with the mystery set in stone. Upon entering basically makes one wonder the play of arches in the apse of stone, supported by arches with mysterious carved capitals and where there are single-windowed in Alabaster, which broadcast within a fantastic play of light. In addition there are two rows of superb stone columns that show each of the extraordinary carved capitals representing figures with monsters and fantastic animals, plants and scenes from the Bible, which represent a veritable encyclopedia sacra: each has a meaning, of course, shrouded in mystery. On the right side of the nave, a stone pulpit carved with geometric and Zoomorphic figures and with extraordinary knotted columns that hold up, another extraordinary beauty with mysterious meanings. The unique offering the Church is extraordinarily beautiful and intense, affects the five senses and brings you back in time: a wonder to behold and contemplate! Not to be missed, to revisit!

  • I decided to visit the Church thanks to the advice of the touring guide. Do not exaggerate if you define the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Tuscany. Outside is very sparse but on entering you find yourself faced with a series of symbols. Starting from the sow suckling the puppies immediately above the entrance. The columns on the right side have magnificent carved capitals with animals and riders. The pulpit is spectacular. With zany caryatids and a bas-relief of a man with legs reversed and a mermaid with two tails. Nice also the apse. Once again at the back of the Church is worth visiting the Olive Garden and the back of the Church.
