  • I decided to visit the Church thanks to the advice of the touring guide. Do not exaggerate if you define the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Tuscany. Outside is very sparse but on entering you find yourself faced with a series of symbols. Starting from the sow suckling the puppies immediately above the entrance. The columns on the right side have magnificent carved capitals with animals and riders. The pulpit is spectacular. With zany caryatids and a bas-relief of a man with legs reversed and a mermaid with two tails. Nice also the apse. Once again at the back of the Church is worth visiting the Olive Garden and the back of the Church.

  • Really worth a look. A beautiful little gem with stunning architecture in a charming hamlet. For wheelchairs/buggies there is a ramp to the front door of the church, but wheelers may find it difficult...  more »
  • I'm off to be amazed by the beauty of old churches scattered in this territory, lost in the countryside almost out of this world and yet capable of expressing an artistic layer of great merit and originality. In few kilometers this church together with the parish church of san Romolo a Gaville, in santa Maria in Pian di Scò, san Pietro a Cascia di Reggello, provides an opportunity to see Romanesque buildings of great artistic importance. The Pieve di Gropina is currently open from 9 to 19 but it's good to inquire about that for sure will vary with the season. This is because we cannot be content to see the outside, although of great visual impact, and overlook the beauty of the Interior, especially the capitals and the pulpit with their complex decorations. If you don't have a guide is better going there after looking at something on the web to understand more the language of many symbolic images. From Loro Ciuffenna a short dirt road a little tight but easily leads to a parking lot near the Church. Nice also the surrounding environment.
