  • It is said that the column of Sant'Oronzo has been made with the remains of one of the columns to Toast the end of Via Appia. The column is there for almost 4 centuries, at the Centre of this square which can be considered the starting point for visiting the historic centre of Lecce, with the statue of the patron saint who blesses. During World War II, the statue was secured to prevent them to be damaged or stolen. At the end of the conflict was again placed where it is now.

  • Bella. Nice little story behind this statue, where they say: If you are a university student, you will never watch s. Oronzo, otherwise you do not graduate.

  • Lecce is really beautiful and hospitable, the patron Sant'Oronzo common also in Ostuni BR, here in the square has a majestic high column approximately 30 meters.

  • Perhaps one of the two Roman columns that were in Brindisi to indicate the end of the via Appia, the other is still in Brindisi in his place!

  • The column of sant'oronzo was one of the two columns that marked the beginning of the via Appia in Brindisi. A currently houses the statue of the patron saint of Lecce and the other is in Brindisi in its original position. The square is the heart of the historic centre of Lecce.
