  • Elegant 2 storey façade, s. Irene is the ancient protector of the city. It rises in the 16th century, the Interior is rich with baroque altars sculpted and Transportation of valuable paintings of Tiso, Holy Ark.

  • Before arriving in Piazza Duomo, in a little square, this church from the outside does not portend the beauty enclosed within it. Dedicated to Saint Irene Patron Saint of Lecce until 1656, reflects, in all its beauty, the devotion and respect that Lecce had for their Patron Saint; built from 1591 by the theatin Francesco Grimaldi, has a façade with a portal flanked by two fluted columns where in a lunette, on which is placed the statue eighteenth Sant'Irene. The Interior is very nice, has a Latin cross plan, with a nave with three chapels on the sides open deep interconnected with elliptical domes: the walls of the sacristy, as the rest of the Church, are richly decorated with many paintings of great artistic value, the most famous of which is the canvas of the Madonna della Libera and behind the high altar carrying the Holy Ark (1758) , a large canvas by Oronzo Tiso of 1758 held by critics one of the most mature and interesting works of the painter. The Church has not the Majesty and grandeur of more appreciated in this city so beautiful but it definitely deserves a proper visit.

  • After the Duomo and the basilica of Santa Croce, here's another Church that enhances the excellence of the baroque city of Lecce. Don't be fooled by the exterior façade that does not do justice to the richness of stucco, sculptures, paintings and Baroque decorations contained within it. Each votive chapel is a riot of Baroque art, as well as the altar and two large chapels. Suggestive passages that connect the various chapels appearing to go through the rooms of a baroque palace.
