Colle del Piccolo San Bernardo, La Thuile
(4.5/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
The Little St Bernard Pass is a mountain pass in the Alps on the France–Italy border. Its saddle is at 2188 metres above sea level. It is located between Savoie, France, and Aosta Valley, Italy, to the south of the Mont Blanc Massif, exactly on the main alpine watershed. There is also a Great St. Bernard Pass and a San Bernardino Pass. The road across this pass is usually open from May to October. For current road status see Etat des principaux cols routiers francais. At the summit, the road cuts through a stone circle measuring 72 m in diameter. A standing stone once stood in the middle. From coin finds this is believed to date from the Iron Age, possibly being a ceremonial site of the Tarentaisian culture . The stone circle was partly restored in the 19th century.

  • After the piccolo San Bernardo la Thuile becomes almost an obligation. Climb over two thousand meters is always fascinating but then when you get to step six in the middle of nowhere. Are only a small bar. The view is nice but not amazing and not comparable to the great St Bernard pass.

  • Very romantic place, with beautiful Lake and megalithic structures. Through the pass border France-Italy. On the pass is an Alpine botanical garden. historians believe that during the Punic Wars, Hannibal's Army (with elephants) passed the Alps in this place.

  • We stopped because we were already in La Thuile, thinking to find something nice to see ... But if it wasn't for a spectacular view of the beautiful Lake Verney, frankly we never even stopped ... disappointed and even restaurants/bars tempting you remotely log in! NCS:(
