Geologic Formation
Take a restorative mud bath at Terme di Vulcano, a live volcano in the Aeolian Islands where sulfurous mud and thermal water gush out of the ground. The mud is famous for its health benefits and is said to cure joint disorders, skin problems, and respiratory ailments--but all visitors agree that a bath here results in incredibly soft and replenished skin. Near the mud pool, you'll find a hot stretch of sea where you can rinse off the mud and enjoy the natural hot tub created by dozens of fumaroles emitting steam. Bring hiking shoes if you fancy a trip up to the summit to see the active crater. • Going to the volcano, you have to make a "dip" in sewage sludge. A special experience and healing, the smell of sulfur is the only problem for the most sensitive. But all in all it is a characteristic of the place.

  • I understand the experience to take advantage of natural mud, use the "whirlpools" of the beach, to spend time together. But how do you stand there without stuffing up your nose? The smell of sulfur is really stifling, I wanted to try this experience deeper but the smell is really sickening. Personally I don't recommend it, definitely will remain a place etched in mind.

  • It's an experience to try again if you go to the volcano, best to avoid the month of August due to the overcrowding of the thermal pool which would make it less enjoyable dive in sewage sludge. The stench of sulfur on the skin will follow you for days:)
