Rovine DI Castro Reviews
This archeological site has been pretty well abandoned by the government and as a result they have taken down much of the signage directing the tourist to the location. You will need a local in... more »
Although the site is in pious condition and there is little to see in the destroyed city, this place has its own charm. Entry ticket 5euros, if you find the ticket office open (I was told it was a rare event but it happened to me).
Exciting to pass through the ruins of the destroyed city and rediscover its history. Too bad that maybe the place is not valued as it deserves, it gives the idea of being abandoned twice. But perhaps this has made even more evocative and authentic the exploration of the site, without tourists, without anyone, without fiction. Only nature that slowly encompasses everything, the time it consumes, the silence. A unique atmosphere, in which you can feel the ancient city of Castro still alive under its remains.
Beautiful ancient city of Castro, entering the woods and ruins is like taking a dip in the past in which to imagine the mint, the hostaria, the market, the shops, the Cathedral. Too bad for the lack of a guide and the long enough stretch in the sun in the summer and the lack of a fountain of drinking water,at this time of the year luckymemto cheered by the presence of so many delicious blackberries! I didn't take pictures, I had my memory full... castro's next visit, sept. .
The dead cities of Lazio are all fascinating and full of history. Castro is definitely worth a trip. A tip: read his story first.
They started putting the ticket office. Perhaps, I would say, before we should make the site more usable or eliminate more vegetation that still covers many of the foundations of the old buildings. There is still a particular fascination with the history of Castro. We hope that the cost of the ticket will serve for the recovery of the site.
