  • If you are looking for a real visit to the mine, Monteponi is the right choice. In addition to showing the redeveloped was destined to the services (schools, post office, garage, lodge etc.) you can see the castle of the well was visited by Pope John Paul II. But the best part is walking into the tunnel, entirely carved into the mountain and which still preserves the machinery in use until the late 90 's and in good condition. The visit underscores both the suffering and the working conditions of the miners but also the considerable technological progress and the primacy jndustriale in the field that there was at the time. The guide was engaging and prepared. The tour lasts about an hour ... only downside is that you have to book in advance. Site in my opinion very important ... If possible to upgrade.
