Piazza Grande, Gubbio

4.8
In a medieval town overlooking the countryside, Piazza Grande preserves its romantic appeal while providing the modern comforts of cafes and commerce. The best views are from the piazza at the top of Via Piccardi. Before or after snapping pictures, roam the narrow streets of the town, which are lined with Gothic, Renaissance, and medieval architecture. Gargoyles and balconies adorn many of the buildings.  Use our Gubbio trip planner to visit Piazza Grande on your trip to Gubbio, and learn what else travelers and our writers recommend seeing nearby.

  • Not only a great open space, but also a point offering a panoramic view of the whole city. Even though it was a rainny day, we enjoyed every part of the city.  more »
  • When you arrive in this square you feel small ... Be amazed by the size of this place, so imposing and elegant. Really beautiful!

  • The nicest thing about Gubbio is surely the "palazzo del popolo" with its large square from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of Gubbio from above

  • Beautiful piazza, highly recommended to visit!
  • Outstanding public square.
  • Medieval square surrounded by buildings and historic church, which overlooks a beautiful panorama. Is a meeting point in the famous corsa dei Ceri. It was also the scene tv series Don Matteo. Neighbouring streets there are also outlets, from the restaurant to the butchery for great sandwiches using local products. To visit.

  • The large square wall unit, supported by four large arches, with two public buildings was the "heart" of the City Government. It is among the most impressive and daring accomplishments medieval town planning, considered among the largest squares existing cabinets. Deliberate in 1321 by magistrates, work began between 1332 and 1336 and were completed in 1483, is incomparable Theater of the finest traditions of authentic Italian folklore. The square is the Centre that combines the four city districts that border and here meet. The parapet of the square, which surrounds the terrace, took the place of a long porch built in 1508 and demolished in 1839, while on the opposite side you built the neoclassical Palazzo Ranghiasci.

  • Visited several times, most recently in early 2018. Every season is one of the most characteristic squares of Italy, always full of people and life. Easily accessible by all elevators that connect all the city
