  • Walking through the streets of the historic center of Gravina we come across in the Cathedral: the signs of this church, in Romanesque style, are still quite evident inside and outside. In the 15th century the Church was enlarged with the main entrance facing West and adorned with a beautiful rose window and a cornice packed with delicate floral motifs. The Interior has a Basilica plan, offers a singular image. The Baroque ceiling is covered with a gilded wooden chest of drawers that are framed five paintings. The Central canvas, most majestic, depicts Mary assumed into heaven that is consecrated the temple. In the right nave cherishes: a font that has been christened the Pope Benedict XIII, aka Pier Francesco Orsini, Gravina, certainly the most illustrious citizen; the majestic figure of St Michael. In the left aisle admiring a painting of a Byzantine fresco portraying a Madonna. In the chapel one can admire an organ of ' 600. Notable is the relief of the Madonna of Constantinople. The apse, surmounted by an arch enriched by a precious Garland, preserves a wooden choir. In the sacristy are kept vestments attributes to Pope Benedict XIII, as I said, the most illustrious citizen of Gravina.
