Castello Svevo Bari, Gioia del Colle

Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.4/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web
Admire the blend of architecture and view the art exhibits at Castello Svevo Bari, a massive castle with two looming towers from the original Norman structure. Frederick II built over the rest of the Norman castle, and the bastions were added in the 16th century during Spanish rule. Although the building has been destroyed and rebuilt since its initial construction, it still retains its grandeur and old charm. The space today houses museum-style exhibits, including displays of black-and-white photography. Also see replicas of Puglia's famous monuments and plaster casts of treasures found in the most important sights of Barri Vecchia. English signs are hard to find, so consider doing research before you go. • For €3 you can enjoy annealing a part of the Castle since much is in restoration, with audioguide in English, German, Italian and French. pose several rooms with exhibition of archaeological material and an audiovisual room where a film on the history of the castle is exposed.

  • I must point out that at least 90% of the pictures posted in this review from others, refers to the Norman-Swabian Castle of BARI and Gioia del Colle not as erroneously indicated. A macroscopic error!!

  • Nothing to see there to be honest. Not even an opportunity to go up to the walls for the view. Totally not worth it
  • Do not pay to enter this Castle. It's really nice from the outside, must see, but they steal your money with the ticket, everything is closed to the public. You cannot go inside the towers, you cannot walk around, you are only allowed in 2 rooms.
  • Historically it's significance can't be ignored though the current method of presenting this needs work. Entry costs 3 euro for adults.
  • A nice castle directly from the past centuries
  • Really boring from inside. We had to pay 3 euros and you basically see nothing.
