Via Garibaldi, Genoa

(4.7/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
In the historic heart of Genoa, Via Garibaldi is one of the more ornate and grandiose streets in all of Italy, complete with stonework and vivid colors. Sixteenth- through 18th-century palaces with hidden courtyards and gardens line the 250 m (820 ft) long road. While some of these palazzos are private property, you can visit the ones with museums, galleries, and civil organizations. Antique shops and gift stores also dot the street. • One of the most beautiful streets of Genoa that counts not less than 12 Palace including the Palazzo Bianco, Rosso, Doria Tursi.. .this way is an example of urban planning

  • For those who love art and history is a beautiful promenade. There are palazzo bianco and palazzo rosso that alone would be worth the trip to see the way. But I assure you that everything is beautiful.

  • Example of development at European level, Via Garibaldi has a unique style and conception made already famous by Rubens that studied the palaces, and moved them in his designs by contributing to the spread of Renaissance style in Nord'Europa. Initially a residential district for large fi Genoese families who abandoned the medieval quarters for an unusual lifestyle. The construction of all buildings is due to the rich Grimaldi family, who transformed the wickedest city in the most privileged area. Via Garibaldi was designed by architect Galeazzo Alessi, student Bernardino cantons, after whom the genius of the great artist. The road has a precise year of birth: 1550. Originally strada Maggiore, then strada Nuova, until the nineteenth century was known as the via Aurea. Madame de Staël the attributed a name even more bombastic: Rue des Rois, the way of the Kings. In 1882 was finally dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi 250 metres long, with a width of 7.5 metres; He was born just like street of representation, From July 13, 2006 is inserted-among the UNESCO World Heritage sites

  • The most impressive street in Genova, flanked by the most ostentatious of the Genovese palazzi di rolli. Better to visit on Rolli days, when most of these palaces are open to the public.
  • Incredible pallazi of which some (although not a lot) can be visited
  • The best old street in town, a lot of magnificent buildings on both sides.
  • Lovely experience. You can literally feel the history and greatness here. Well preserved stone palaces.
  • Street with monumental buildings. Get a guide or some kind of app to learn more about them.
