San Donato is a church in Genoa, Northern Italy. It dates from the 12th century and is in Romanesque style. It became a parish under archbishop Siro il Porcello, and was consecrated on May 1, 1189.After the bombardment of 1684 it was restored several times, being again consecrated on December 4, 1892. Other restorations in 1946-1951 have kept its Romanesque appearance. The interior contains a Madonna by the 14th-century painter Nicolò da Voltri; a St Joseph, by Domenico Piola; and a marble relief of the Baptism of Christ, started by Ignazio Peschiera and completed by his pupil Carlo Rubatto. There is also a tryptich (1515) by Joos van Cleve representing The Adoration of the Magi; the person who commissioned the work Stefano Raggi with Guardian Saint ; and a Mary Magdalen. This is topped by a Crucifixion scene with Mary and St John the Evangelist.

  • Visited out of curiosity after reading an article on octagonal tower, it was a pleasant discovery. Recommended.

  • Church of Genoa's historic centre. The first information about that date back to the 11th century, the current building was built in the early 12th century and enlarged in the second half of the same century and represents the most significant example of Romanesque genovese. In the late 19th systematic restorations were performed by Alfredo d'andrade or D'andrade (across synthesis). Note a beautiful baroque newsstand with a statue of the Madonna and child, visible and tasteful and of particular interest the octagonal Bell Tower. The Interior has a Basilica with three naves, divided, I think, by twelve columns. The most important artwork is the triptych of the Dutch Joost van Cleve, depicting the adoration of the Magi, but to note also the Madonna and child and the Madonna del Latte. Both beautiful, historical and of several centuries.

  • The Church is beautiful, unique architecture and in my opinion well maintained. Beautiful also the Virgin and child, nursed, unique and very old. Too bad for the "perpetuity", a person who has nothing to do with the Church, is not a man of the church a person so rude. Shame really
