Sant'Agostino is a church in the historical center of Genoa, northern Italy. It is today deconsecrated, sometimes used for representations of the nearby Teatro della Tosse.HistoryBegun by the Augustinians in 1260, it is one of the few Gothic buildings remaining in the city, after the numerous demolitions in the 19th century. It has a typical façade with bichrome stripes in white marble and blue stone, with a large rose window in the middle. Notable is the ogival portal with, in the lunette, a fresco depicting St Augustine by Giovanni Battista Merano. At the sides are two double mullioned windows. The interior has a nave and two aisles divided by ogival arches supported by robust columns with cubic capitals. The church has also two cloister now included into a museum.

  • Just at the exit of the metro Sant'Agostino, the Museum occupies a former monastery and offers a well-made path following the guide offered at the entrance (which indicate the most interesting works in the hurry tourist). The course on several floors has a vast panorama of tombstones (Marguerite of Brabant was unfortunately restaurant in Florence during my visit) and superb sculptures (see in particular the admirable ancient sculptures wooden and the work of Pierre Puget, devoted to the abduction of Helen, in addition to excellent local artists), but also of beautiful Spanish tiles and paintings of the Genoese school. All this is well highlighted, we can take pictures except in a part of the Museum. Recommended to lovers of art and history.

  • Very nice and very interesting, with pieces of great value (one for all: the work of Giovanni Pisano), made by the local authority between 1977 and 1984. Just to review some some price tags with description (sometimes missing altogether).
