Cimitero Monumentale di Staglieno, Genoa

4.3
One of the largest cemeteries in Europe, Cimitero Monumentale di Staglieno sprawls across a hillside and contains several important sculptures and graves. Among some of the notables buried here are Oscar Wilde's wife Constance Lloyd, Fabrizio De André, Ferruccio Parri, Giuseppe Mazzini, and Nino Bixio. You can find maps at the visitor’s center to navigate the area more easily, and booklets are also available to explain the statues and graves. Mosquitoes can be a problem here, so consider bringing bug spray. To find out how to plan a trip to Genoa, use our trip itinerary maker.

The monumental cemetery of Staglieno, on the slopes of the Hill, is accessible by bus 34, presents numerous sculptures of family graves ... Despite being a monumental cemetery, and the feeling of a scarce worth a visit

Wonderful works in a wonderful location, unfortunately in Italy. Then, the app should do from audio guide does not work (the wi fi signal, only way to use them! It comes and goes. You can try scanning the qr codes on the side of the works, but we have to figure out alone because the keepers, despite their kindness, are still living in a different era. ...) . The works are all filthy and everything would need quite a restauro. Thousands of mosquitoes. Very little guided that ... unbelievable but true, in August when we expect more tourists, are reduced to JUST TWO. I mean ... it speaks for itself, right?

  • Spectacular! One of the most incredible cemeteries/ "art museums of sculptures" that you will ever see. If you love history and amazing sculptures, then put this place on your "to go visit" list. I could not believe how beautiful and intricately perfect the statues are. So incredibly made that you would swear they come to life after hours. This place is enormous so make sure you leave at least a half a day in your schedule to see it, maybe even longer. It's unfathomable that the statues are not just decoration, but also tombs and there are so many of them! Fantastic photo opportunities are everywhere in this place. I did not take the guided tour but it's on my list to do in the future. I've heard good things about it. The cemetery is free to enter. For the guided tour, you have to pay a small fee. Do not miss this!
  • This cemetery is a beautiful place for anyone who likes History, sculpture or even just sightseeing. It's gigantic and full of beautiful things to see. I was a bit skeptical about visiting a cemetery but it's totally worth it. It is lacking some work when it comes to preservation, but even that adds to the beauty of the space. Better signs to help you navigate the space would also be nice.
  • I will love to put this joint in my menu
  • Monumental cemetery. One of the most beautiful of all Europe. I recommend you to follow a guided visit.
  • One of the best attractions in Genoa. It's an ancient 19th century cemetary that turned into a museum. Must see.
