Chiesa del Gesu e dei Santi Ambrogio e Andrea, Genoa

4.7
Dating back to the sixth century, Chiesa del Gesu e dei Santi Ambrogio e Andrea is one of the oldest remaining churches in the area, with one very striking feature: its ceiling. Look up to see this masterwork completely coated in bright paintings and gilded in gold. If you manage to visit during sunset, the Baroque-style interior seems to glow under the sunlight. While much of the interior is original, the outside was completely reconstructed in 1894. The Church of Jesus and the Saints Ambrose and Andrea Genoa in Piazza Matteotti, during our visit in the city of Genoa almost took us by surprise by such beauty ... magnificent façade ... but the inside is the part that caught our attention ... A treasure trove of paintings by Rubens, well, kidneys and others. All so beautiful, that leave you breathless. Ideal for those who are passionate about art

Find two spectacular Rubens that size is not easy, "the circumcision altarpiece" and the "Miracles of Saint Ignatius". Also between Golden and majestic Baroque stucco finishes you can admire a Guido Reni "assumption of Mary". On the right as you enter under an altar a masterpiece a fine marble Nativity scene.

  • Beautiful church with a stunning interior.
  • An impressive church beside Piazza del Ferrari. Beautiful interiors

  • This lovely Church is in the Centre of Genoa, next to the Doge's Palace, and behind piazza de ferraris, so easily accessible. In this church, with free access, you can see a couple of paintings by Rubens and other interesting works of art. We walked along one of the routes suggested by the data from the Office information leaflet, then to church lists a couple of pictures and information on the link between Rubens and the city Genoa.

  • Awesome! Of particular interest are the depictions of sacred scenes placed in relief through frescoed panels in the domes and on different ceilings of the Church.
