It is one of the places that caught my attention in Gela. Nowhere else can contemplate a Greek wall as that found in this place. For those who are archaeologists is a marvel that we can see how they built this type of walls in antiquity. Recommended 100%.View original -

I grew up in Gela and as a child I visited countless times the parco delle Mura Timoleontee ". Here I was often even jogging and admission was free. For some years the entrance is free of charge and this can definitely have its perfect logic. What is totally illogical and absurd, now in 2017, is that a visitor that arrives from afar to review specially the most expensive places of his childhood/youth, is denied the opportunity to visit the Archaeological Park in August because the staff is on vacation! Within two days I went several times to the park entrance, noting every time it closed. The sign informing exposed simply over the summer and winter opening hours, but no mention of a special closing in the middle of summer. I finally called the archaeological museum, located at the other end of town, and I was informed of the closure for the entire month of August because "they're all on vacation"! It remains appalled over that utterly disappointed. And what you believe, that visitors and tourists like myself can more easily come in February rather than in August? Wouldn't it be better then, instead of keeping everything crossed out and inaccessible, temporarily the old custom of free admission that for decades has worked well? I hope that the municipal administration or whoever it adopt appropriate measures as soon as possible to prevent the renewal of this scandal and return fully, to the enjoyment of citizens and tourists, one of the strengths of the historical heritage Gela. And if they keep it closed, which they put at least a sign to alert! By the way, the sign with the QR code does not work, it would be appropriate to check or was on vacation too?View original -

Gela, where lies the neighborhood of caposoprano, has a defensive system of the Greek city walls, which are a testimony of inestimable archaeological value. Discovered in 1948, witnessing a military defensive system of high engineering. In front of them consumed the bloodiest battles between Greeks and Carthaginians. Are massive walls which in places reach a height of about 10 meters, perfectly preserved despite the fragility of the materials used, sandstone and mud bricks, almost impossible to keep after 2400 years, the result of the high degree of Engineering laid out before it was said. A large park, overlooking the sea, was created around them to allow a visit of high cultural value in a landscaped environment pleasantly relaxing. Not far from the Park in the same area, you can admire the most sophisticated and well preserved thermal plant, the oldest discovered in Italy and which will then be taken as a model by the Romans for buildings of Roman baths complex.View original

I found it closed during August the peak season . It's unacceptable and totally disrespectful of people who come from far away to visit ancient monuments .

Interesting Greek mural with a history and amazing panorama view of the coastline

Lugo charming but poorly managed. We should create something that arouses the interest of the visitor. And delete the thickets which hide the view of the sea! Gela is a town that doesn't know how to enhance their story.View original

The beauty of Timoleontee "Walls is unmatched. Unfortunately, the Archaeological Park is not cured and often is closed not allowing tourists to visit the site.View original
