  • In such a small, but very old town didn't expect to see so rich Cathedral.

  • The basilica-Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Agnes (Diocese of Nardò, Gallipoli and the Bishop's Palace is in Nardò) and is in a narrow street that doesn't allow you to fully enjoy the view of the façade which is of carparo (hardest stone cannot be worked like stone, in fact the statues are made of local stone and not of carparo) the façade has two orders the latter solutions provided by the architect of Lecce Baroque : Zimbalo the Basilica lacks a Bell Tower, the bells are placed on the terrace (Bell Tower) a tower with bells nearby is the belfry and bells mark the time of civil life and not religious. The Interior has three naves separated by twelve Doric columns and there are twelve altars. Important are the canvases representing the life of Saint Agatha on the ceiling, the banishment of merchants on the counter-façade, the martyrdom of St Sebastian and scenes from the old and New Testaments on the walls. Very interesting are the majestic altar in polychrome marble and the pulpit

  • We did not expect such a wonder as well: the Cathedral he just amazed! Was completed in 1696 and the façade is a real triumph of the Baroque, which draws some solutions of the lais by arch. Zimbalo (beautiful statues in stone, especially that of St Agatha in the niche of the main door). The square is almost non-existent, there is only a narrow street and suffered a short staircase before entering ... in order to photograph the Cathedral it is necessary to "lurk" in side streets and settle for a glimpse! To the left of the Cathedral there is the clock tower. The Interior is even better: 3 naves, an organ of 1700 and especially excited me the ceiling joists of wood decorated with 3 paintings by Nicola Malinconico ... that artwork! In general the whole Cathedral boasts a unique exhibition of paintings of religious places and representations of the lives of the Saints. I was sad to find the first canvas in the upper left side of the nave half peeled off. I hope they put it back in these days. The presbytery is something unique, very colorful with wooden crucifix in the Middle 1700 's masterpiece! Go and see her, especially by day: the colors are various but darkening, then in the evening we see little!

  • Beautiful baroque church right in the middle. Very particular time and striking realism of the statue of Sant'Antonio da Paola. It's more than you'd expect
