  • Viewed from afar this island for the Gallipoli visitors a nice photo opportunity, the lighthouse thank offers! This island but really to understand and to capture their beauty and importance you must approach it you. It is only by boat. But I doubt that the tourists tours are suitable for it, also you may believe the island no longer enter (nature reserve). I can only say that I was fascinated as a child from the island. Only a few know that it is significantly larger than the island, on which rests the old town of Gallipoli! If you have the luck to be able to go with a boat you should enjoy every moment of rapprochement. The Lighthouse is getting bigger, the deep blue water gradually interspersed with turquoise spots. If you then throw the anchor and has mask, snorkel and fins here, you should not long hesitate. I also often showed with bottle. Fascinating underwater world - crystal clear water, many fish, sea grass meadows, or even shards of amphorae. Near the island's are 10 meters deep on average. Of course, there is also large areas with a depth of only a few meters - ideal for snorkeling. I walked the island itself into several times. That you should have sturdy shoes/sandals, I can save me a tip, because as I said: to my knowledge you can enter the island today more no way. Earlier, it was different, because she didn't count also still to the nature park. There are some relics of small buildings and possibly ways but all devoted and are overgrown. There are many gulls and even rabbits. The vegetation is of course rather sparse. But especially tasty vegetables from the island came to the past! The lighthouse itself is surprisingly large, when you stand before him. Each island expedition had always something mysterious and mysterious in itself for us kids, especially as we once even illegally climbed through an open window into the Interior of the lighthouse. The Museum of Gallipoli issued several skulls, have been found on the island. This has strengthened the "myth of lighthouse island" of course for us. That all else is from the perspective of "normal tourists", I can understand of course. Superficially, it is a barren, deserted island with a very pretty lighthouse, which has to offer nothing but otherwise. But at least as a nature lover you should know to appreciate them anyway. Perhaps are you Yes, to rent a small boat, if you spend your holiday in Gallipoli? Then you should not miss visiting the island and be sure to pack a dive mask!

Where to stay in Gallipoli

To use Gallipoli as a base to see the rest of Puglia, consider staying in or near the city's old town, noted for its shops, restaurants, and museums. Most hotels in this area are quite large and modern, so if you want something a little more traditional and low-key, think about booking your room at a private villa or B&B near the seafront. They offer stylish rooms and sunny terraces, with access to private swimming pools and nearby beaches.
