Castello di Brolio, Gaiole in Chianti

#1 of 17 in Things to do in Gaiole in Chianti
Tour the vineyards, grounds, and castle at Castello di Brolio. The castle passed into the hands of the Ricasoli family in 1141, and still shows damage from bullets and cannonballs. Admire the surrounding rolling hills and 230 hectares (568 acres) of vineyards from the ramparts of the castle. Sample the family vineyard’s own Chianti wine--the formula for Chianti was invented here in 1872--over a three-course meal in the terrace restaurant. • We booked the sunset tour with the expectation that we would visit the cellars and the vineyard by sunset. Unfortunately, the tour was a tour of the castle and the chapel. No cellars, no vineyards. Si...  more »
  • If you switch to Gaiole, is a must. Amazing!! Advice to anyone who is passionate about wines like me to spend a few hours at Brolio. Great!

  • The first time I visited years ago it was a pleasant trip. I ended up with my wife, then betrothed near Gaiole and following the directions I came to the Castle. Very nice to visit. Sometimes we come back and we then visit the enoteca for wine tasting. To see absolutely.

  • This is a privately owned castle, but it can be visited for a small admission. The place is really beautiful and has a little park and its own little church, which you can enter. A little wine tasting is included in the admission price, but after that you have to pay to taste some more wine. But we did go there for the castle, so it did not matter to us.
  • What a beautiful place. You have to see the view on the top, 360 views of Chianti vineyard. Pictures can't tell, it just breathtaking. After visit the castle, we went for wine tasting. Running around in the vineyard. Such lovely afternoon we spent there.
  • Lovely, quiet vineyard and estate. A €5 tickets gets you entrance to the grounds and a free wine tasting when you get to the wine shop. Winery tours get booked up well in advance so be sure to book. Delicious wines and very knowledgeable and helpful staff.
  • An absolutely breathtaking view of the area from the wall around the castle. Do not visit the winery without going to the castle as well. Wine was good, though we didn't try many.
  • Interested landmark place with muiseme at Racosole female and testing wine store in downhill from there.
