Castello di Brolio, Gaiole in Chianti
(4.2/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Tour the vineyards, grounds, and castle at Castello di Brolio. The castle passed into the hands of the Ricasoli family in 1141, and still shows damage from bullets and cannonballs. Admire the surrounding rolling hills and 230 hectares (568 acres) of vineyards from the ramparts of the castle. Sample the family vineyard’s own Chianti wine--the formula for Chianti was invented here in 1872--over a three-course meal in the terrace restaurant. • The staff, the Castle, the History, THE WINE'S!!!! the scenery and much much more! One of the best hidden secrets of Tuscany! Love this place and I bring many people to experience it each season.
  • Definitely worth a side trip there. The castle is beautiful. Great views from the top. Inexpensive ticket. Keep in mind that it really is a good uphill walk, so it is not for everyone. Also, they have...  more »
  • We did the tour of the gardens of Castello di Brolio, easy to follow, with noteworthy (you could see plainly Siena). In 5 euro (ticket price) includes the taste of a wine/vin santo/grappa at your choice in the wine cellar below the Castle. We must say: great commercial choice because we too could taste so good vin santo and passito, that then we purchased. Great! Note: last visit at this time is at 16.
