Castello di Brolio, Gaiole in Chianti

#1 of 14 in Things to do in Gaiole in Chianti
Tour the vineyards, grounds, and castle at Castello di Brolio. The castle passed into the hands of the Ricasoli family in 1141, and still shows damage from bullets and cannonballs. Admire the surrounding rolling hills and 230 hectares (568 acres) of vineyards from the ramparts of the castle. Sample the family vineyard’s own Chianti wine--the formula for Chianti was invented here in 1872--over a three-course meal in the terrace restaurant. A place to do during a visit in the region. The view from the gardens of the castle on the hills of Tuscany is just fantastic. It shows off the towers of Siena and the Chianti Valley. Wonderful!

We choose this destination thanks to google map because honestly I avevamo.mai heard. The Visual impact is remarkable ... between vineyards, stands this nice red Castle surrounded by high walls. The entrance ticket (€5) allows you to visit the garden, the Church and walk on the high walls where you can admire the splendid view but does not allow access inside the Palace. Once out of the Castle, with the ticket you can stop and enjoy one of the finest wine shop at "chianti" products. the cantine.del Baron Ricasoli

A bit of history. But above all a splendid view of a typical landscape of the Chianti. You have to pay for the tour of the gardens, but worth the money.

  • Beautiful view, on a clear day you can make out Sienna. Get there early and you can drive up to the ticket area and get in. Get there later and you'll be walking up the long beautiful driveway. In either case its worth it. Wine tasting is down the hill near the entrance to the driveway up the hill.
  • Definitely the highlight of our holiday. We visited the castle grounds and the museum. The apartments are not open to public because the Ricasoli family still live there, but the grounds and museum are worth it. Not to mention the wine tasting included in the ticket - we loved Barone Ricasoli Chianti Classico.
  • Beautiful castle with excellent view over the Chianti mountains, good possibility to taste Chianti classico in different varieties.
  • Need to pay extra and get a tour with a guide to see the inside of the castle because the baron Ricasoli still lives there. Still and amazing place to visit though.
  • Amazing history of Barone Ricasoli, the "Iron Barone". 2x Italian president and creator of the world famous "Chianti Classico" wine. Do the tour through the family museum, you will not be disappointed.
