Rocca Sanvitale di Fontanellato, Fontanellato

(4.5/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Begun in the 13th century and mostly completed by the 15th, Rocca Sanvitale di Fontanellato was home of the descendants of the Count of Sanvitale until the 1930s. Now a museum, it also houses an optical chamber that uses mirrors and prisms to project a view of the town onto a wall. Traverse the moat to enter the fortress, which is furnished with furniture and paintings that span the 16th to 18th centuries. The castle-like building also houses a great masterpiece of the Italian Mannerist artist Parmigianino, a room painted with a depiction of the myth of Diana and Actaeon. • Very interesting visit regarding both the structure and the perfect way to present it in the complete guided tour (also possible a partial examination and a particular path suitable for children).

  • The guided tour inside the Castle costs 8 euros but are well spent. The frescoes by Parmigianino's Diana and Actaeon is worth the price of admission alone. The guides are prepared and available. The castle is in an excellent state of preservation.

  • At the heart of a peaceful village of lower Parma the castle of San Vitale with its imposing mass dominates the surrounding square is tightly embedded in which is reflected in the great divide that still surrounds the ancient Manor House (now the Town Hall and partly open). In the museum open do not miss the beautiful room with frescoes by Parmigianino. Definitely worth a stop over or a cultural-gastronomic detour.

  • Nice fortified building in the middle of the square. Inside, there's three only camera obscura in Italy, a hole in the wall in a room will project the square image upside down on the opposite wall
  • Bellissimo castello con fossato
  • Posto bellissimo
  • Is one of 24 castles of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza. Better make the visit "long": you visit several rooms that are well preserved and worthy to be seen. The room of Diana and Actaeon with frescoes by Parmigianino. Worth a diversion.

  • One of the most beautiful castles of the province of Parma and the moat still filled with water I would say that maybe it's a Pearl in Italy, it's worth to take a guided tour inside (the darkroom is awesome) ... also always makes the backdrop in the year for a lot of events.
