Rocca Sanvitale, Fontanellato

(4.5/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Begun in the 13th century and mostly completed by the 15th, Rocca Sanvitale was home of the descendants of the Count of Sanvitale until the 1930s. Now a museum, it also houses an optical chamber that uses mirrors and prisms to project a view of the town onto a wall. Traverse the moat to enter the fortress, which is furnished with furniture and paintings that span the 16th to 18th centuries. The castle-like building also houses a great masterpiece of the Italian Mannerist artist Parmigianino, a room painted with a depiction of the myth of Diana and Actaeon. • The visit lasts about 2 hours and the guides you need to take are very prepared. the best thing is a ceiling fresco by Parmigianino.

  • We were there on a foggy winter's evening, and the castle had a very charming. Well maintained, offers the beautiful room of Pamigianino which is much more beautiful live than in photography

  • Nice fortified building in the middle of the square. Inside, there's three only camera obscura in Italy, a hole in the wall in a room will project the square image upside down on the opposite wall
  • Bellissimo castello con fossato
  • Posto bellissimo
  • Is one of 24 castles of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza. Better make the visit "long": you visit several rooms that are well preserved and worthy to be seen. The room of Diana and Actaeon with frescoes by Parmigianino. Worth a diversion.

  • One of the most beautiful castles of the province of Parma and the moat still filled with water I would say that maybe it's a Pearl in Italy, it's worth to take a guided tour inside (the darkroom is awesome) ... also always makes the backdrop in the year for a lot of events.
