Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Begun in the 13th century and mostly completed by the 15th, Rocca Sanvitale was home of the descendants of the Count of Sanvitale until the 1930s. Now a museum, it also houses an optical chamber that uses mirrors and prisms to project a view of the town onto a wall. Traverse the moat to enter the fortress, which is furnished with furniture and paintings that span the 16th to 18th centuries. The castle-like building also houses a great masterpiece of the Italian Mannerist artist Parmigianino, a room painted with a depiction of the myth of Diana and Actaeon.
