Synagogue and Jewish Museum, Florence

(4.3/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
One of the largest synagogues in Europe, Synagogue and Jewish Museum was built between 1874 and 1882, just after the emancipation of the Italian Jews in 1861. Unique in its Moorish style, the cupola, which is covered in green copper, stands out in the skyline of the city. Inside, walk through the filtered light that passes through the stained-glass windows, and admire the murals that grace the walls. Visit the museum, which holds many objects and photos documenting the history of Florence's Jewish community. Guided tours are available, but make sure to reserve ahead of time. • The sinagogue is worth itself, but the best time to pass by is on Thursdays in Spring o Summer for a brunch or an aperitivo! Brunches are with Jewish intellectuals and aperitivos with concerts. They o...  more »
  • The Museum is not very rich but condensation in the collection all that matters. History of the construction and reconstruction of the synagogue, religious objects, the tragedy of the Holocaust.

  • Sunday mornings in synagogue and Jewish Museum of Florence. The architecture is unique and fits into the typical Florentine. The Museum is equally special and full of images and objects of prestige. Deserves a modicum of patience for controlled access, unfortunately one consequence of the metaphysical mind-numbingly boring to be modern. A moment of emotion before the stele that remembers the Jews deported by the Nazis.

  • This synagogue is just amazing! They also organize aperitivos with live music in the beautiful garden in front of it, with delicious jewish food! I highly suggest to go for the guided tour! Security checks are long so do come a little bit earlier than planned!
  • I am not Jewish but I was always interested in seeing a synagogue inside. I visited this one some time ago and they were very welcoming and I had the opportunity to learn more about Jewish people and religion. Visit it if you are someone with curiosity for religious and culture.
  • Intresting and impressive structure with a rich history, although we can argue about the origin of the architecture but this is part of the story. 8€ No bags and cameras/phone
  • Interesting architecture and museum
  • Quite interesting little museum on upper floors. Steep security so its easier not to have any backpacks etc.
