  • The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore had its construction begun in 1296 in place of the former Cathedral dedicated to Santa Reparata, who worked at the site for nine centuries. This construction, initially, it's a little hard to understand. But the visit there is an archaeological site (Santa Reparata Church), located in the basement of the Cathedral, helps demonstrate and explain this transformation.

  • Santa Reparata is the early Church on which was built the Duomo of Florence. It is possible to visit the foundations through a stairway inside the Cathedral. The different remains (pillars, mosaics, frescoes) are very well preserved and a course explains the evolution of the religious building from its origins. In a quarter of an hour we can learn a lot.

  • This church represents the remnants of what was on the site of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Located near the exit from the Cathedral (down stairs). Her visit is included in an integrated ticket that includes a visit to the Cathedral, the dome and the current 12:00 am. The Church is not required to attend. in my opinion. But if you bought a ticket and there is a time-go take a look at ancient graves, mosaics, etc.
