  • We had chanced to visit this church, an ancient and fascinating as every place of Florence, just before the Cathedral, admission is free. The Council, in the expectation of endless rows that there are the Duomo

  • The Church of "Santa Maria Maggiore', located in the historical centre of Florence, is one of the oldest churches in the Tuscan city and one of the first dedicated to the Virgin Mary by the Florentines. The outside is very simple, in the Gothic style and with portals surmounted of a tympanum, while the Interior has three naves of three spans. While the two aisles are richly decorated on the walls and the vaults by Baroque frescoes and stucco, the nave is quite naked, devoid of special decorations. Inside of the Church it is worth to see also a wooden crucifix of the Virgin with the child, the organ of the beginning of the last century, a plate and the master of Dante, Brunetto Latini. In the evening, very well illuminated, "Santa Maria Maggiore" comes in all beauty to tourists and visitors in Florence coming by train at the station of "Santa Maria Novella". I think it is really worth to find a time a visit to this church.
