Ponte Vecchio, Florence

4.2
#5 of 109 in Sightseeing in Florence
Bridge Tourist Spot
Walk across one of Florence's oldest and most iconic landmarks, Ponte Vecchio. Spanning the Arno river in the heart of the city, the 14th-century bridge features a wide, three-arch design supporting a series of historic shop fronts. Stroll the bridge's thoroughfare to peruse shops or see street performances. Visit the secret Vasari Corridor that stretches across the bridge to connect two Renaissance palaces. Antique jewelry enthusiasts may want to keep an eye out for the area's gold and silversmith shops. Plan to see Ponte Vecchio and other attractions that appeal to you using our Florence tour planner.

  • We visited Florence and have also taken a look at the Ponte Veccchio, what a nice place is that.. Formerly it housed butchers who threw the leftovers in Dr. Arno. Now there are jewelry stores is what I've read, the history of the River under this bridge is the Arno I found it worth to take a look, Park in the parking garage fortezza fiera A1, 60 per hour is a good tip and 1 straight line you walk in 20 min to the ponte vecchio this is open 24 hours and secure with best rates guaranteed

  • Enjoyed window shopping and had a great lunch. Can get very crowded. Don't buy anything without asking for a discount. All the price tags are marked up since they expect you to ask for a discount,  more »

  • Walked again to arrive here after lunch. Streaming in aplenty people from I don't know where, one of the most iconic sights. We viewed the Arno river and the unique, historical and special bridge with its medieval arch. And then time for shopping. I didn't buy anything, just leisurely walked around to glimpse, possibly, I hope I didn't miss out on anything and everything.
  • While crowded with tourists, it's a beautiful old bridge! It has great views from either side, and beautiful jewelry stores. Make sure you don't purchase anything from people selling things on the curb, though.
  • Excellent view of Arno river and it's surroundings... Lots of nice and beautiful jewelry shops lined up along the bridge offering tempting items... Must watch when you visit Florence...
  • Hugely packed (we were there at Easter though) so that it's impossible to really appreciate the bridge. If you go early in the morning it's nicer, before the jewelry shops are open - prettier with fewer people and less stalls selling tat all along it. Nice views of the rest of the river and other bridges if you can find a gap in the crowd.
  • A very beautiful place to visit. The crowds are really condense and it is difficult to move and make photos. Other than that the place is really beautiful with many small shops along both sides of the street.

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
