  • This piazza is very nice and you can see that a lot of local people live here. There a fair number of restaurants with alfresco dining that it makes a nice place to eat dinner.  more »
  • Santo is in the Renaissance heart of the more artisanal Florentine neighbourhood of Oltrarno just a hop and a skip from the main centre. Piazza Santo Spirito really comes to life starting in the eveni...  more »
  • It's gorgeous, but you don't go here for painting or altarpieces. This was designed by Brunelleschi and the geometric perfection and harmony of the architecture is worth a long look. A hop from the Br...  more »

  • I just want to add something to this. I think it is one of the most magical places ive been in the world. I have been here for 4 years. This piazza made me feel so loved. i made family. i experienced happiness, sadness. surprise and all other emotions on this square. people care for you. Again, Such a magical place.
  • more Christian garbage. Blah blah same 3 paintings recreated like every where else here....
  • I actually got there by accident but the place is magical. There are a few copies of Michaelangelo's sculptures, his wooden crucifix from 1492 and a lot of renaissance chapels. The entrance was free, there were no guards, just a monk sitting by the door and an old man guarding the crucifix. Also, Padre Giuseppe Pagano who was also by the crucifix added a whole lot of a nice aura, greeting everyone with a smile.
  • Should have stuck with Brunnelesch's design
  • The atmosphere around the church is very nice

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
