Landmark Tourist Spot
Have a latte in the shadow of some of Florence's most iconic buildings in Piazza Santa Croce, one of the main squares in the city's historical center. To one side you'll see the towering Basilica of Santa Croce, the world's largest Franciscan church and the burial place of Michelangelo Buonarroti, Niccolò Machiavelli, Enrico Fermi, Galileo Galilei, and many other storied Italians. Opposite, you'll find the Palazzo Cocchi-Serristor, which was rebuilt in the 15th century by Giuliano da Sangallo, Lorenzo de' Medici's personal architect. You'll also find the Palazzo del' Antella with its ornate 17th-century facade, and myriad other architectural and sculptural landmarks. Our Florence family vacation planner makes visiting Piazza Santa Croce and other Florence attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
