  • One of the most beautiful squares in Florence, the atmosphere of another era, seems to be living in another era. Exciting and spectacular. Not to be missed. Viva Florence, long live Italy!

  • We were staying nearby in May 2012. Many restaurants nearby. Really large square with concrete benches to sit and relax. Some green space in the middle of the square. Enjoyed a gelato here on evening....  more »
  • Simple square from the few pretensions, there is also the Church of the same name easy to find you two by steps from the central train station. Stop by classic photo but not very nice Avenue more than 5 minutes of your time, Florence has much more to offer. SIMPLE!!!

  • Good place but fee can be smaller. Admission is 5 Euro and wait is quite a bit since there is only one cashier. Coming from Rome where there are so many beautiful Basilica's it felt strange to pay for admission to the church and endure long line. While inside there were a good number of painting and nice courtyards and mini museum. Overall it's a good experience.
  • Couple of things I learned while here: 1. The Basilica di Santa Maria Novella is the only church with its original facade still in place 2. It's the oldest church in Florence 3. An incredibly beautiful Gothic Church. Very happy to have made this part of my itinerary
  • A cavernous basilica filled with art treasures on its walls (frescoes and sculpted tributes to saints and rich-guy benefactors), and a magnificent altar. Tranquil inner cloisters and headstones from long-ago are certainly worth poking around as well.
  • The highlight of the churches in Florence is that they're all free mini art galleries. Santa Maria Novella is no exception to this. Swing in, look at the paintings, enjoy the architecture.
  • Another one of Florence's many beautiful churches both spectacular on the inside and outside. Worth the visit.
