Piazza della Repubblica, Florence

(3.8/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
The lively and social plaza at Piazza della Repubblica was built upon the ancient crossing of two Roman roads and the city’s first forum. Catch live musical acts, street theater, and impromptu exhibitions within the square. Have a drink in one of the historical cafes, where intellectuals and artists used to meet during the early 20th century. Watch as a street performer entertains the crowds and lose yourself in the spirited yet relaxed atmosphere. • One of the most beautiful piazzas I've ever met, beautiful scenery for many photos and street performers doing shows.

  • Great for children-carousel. Several restaurants. Just a block or two off Calzaiuoli. Nice stop for a meal or glass of wine  more »
  • The square is situated between the streets of Florence and is surrounded by places to go shopping or stop for a refreshment. In the Center is occupied by the merry-go-round for children (but I've also seen "small" take a ride!) Nice, but too busy (like all the old town, for that matter). The best part is certainly represented by the imposing arc and porches that, from it, extend on both sides.
