  • In a city full of amazing museums, do not miss this one! What a glimpse into Renaissance life... Absolutely fascinating from the moment you walk in the door.. up all the floors.. I believe it is free ...  more »
  • Recommended for those who want to be suddenly catapulted into the Florence of the Medicis. The keepers lend themselves willingly to give explanations on objects in the rooms. Not to be missed.

  • Palace built by the Davizzi family and after switching to other wealthy families of Florence bought by Bernardo Davanzati that brought the latest enhancements. The courtyard is the center of the building, from which you can see the above three floors with stairs, passages and galleries, in its sides there are rings for tying horses and a private pit wall in a corner, side, through a system of pulleys, you could raise the water to all floors of the building. Numerous water spouts from the roof brought rainwater into the center of the courtyard where, within a gently sloping, flowed into the cistern in the basement, which fed the well. The three floors are all furnished with furniture of the time and during a guided tour, you can understand USS situations in life of a prosperous family of Florence from the 16th century.

  • Was lucky to be allowed on the top floor during my visit; there was some renovation work but I saw more! Very interesting place, lots of insight into daily life eg cooking, sleeping, relaxing, and washing up. Look for a graffiti in the kitchen which said "one of the Medici's was assassinated today" ie its a 400 year old scribble!

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
