The Loggia del Bigallo is a medieval building which is quite close to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, built in the mid-14th century to initially host the Compagnia della Misericordia and the Compagnia del Bigallo, subsequently that he administered the hospital of the same name. Currently is home to a small museum where you can see some gems of Gothic painting Florentine, highlighting the image of the Virgin of mercy whose feet is the earliest representation of the city (fresco from the school of Bernardo Daddi dated in 1342), when the dome of the Cathedral was not even began to build and the Camapanile di Giotto was unfinished , but which gives a clear idea of the appearance of the city full of towers and San Gimignano had the medieval Florence, besides others of Niccolò di Pietro Gerini and Bernardo Daddi. Worth a go and check it out since it is free and will visit pretty fast.

Is the building was the home of the bigallo society to take care of abandoned children and the sick. Dwomo square on the South side. Is easily overlooked in the corner of the street, so I think that is one of the historic buildings.

Very few people know that in the Loggia del Bigallo there is a small museum that never would expect. Access is via a door on the side opposite the Baptistery.

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
