We went there by accident. But you can visit the library of Greek and Latin Classics created by Clinicians (which we found to be the first secular library in Italy). The interior decorations are deliberately celebrations of the House of Medici. Ideal the combination ticket with Museum and basilica di San Lorenzo. Council to inquire in advance that at certain times of the year is closed to the public.

For Michel Angello, its staircase, his calm and his amazing works (under glass) but also its tactile and interactive screens to flick the treasures that cannot be read. I don't understand the negative reviews on this gem!

When I switch from Borgo San Lorenzo, I can't help but get into the cloister of the Basilica of the same name. The entrance is on the left of the façade. In spring there are the azaleas in bloom, really spectacular. In every season, green and shadow, that instill a sense of peace and serenity. Highly recommended, after visiting the Medici Chapels of the Basilica of San Lorenzo, and of the beautiful Laurentian library, for a relaxing break before diving back into the chaos of the city centre.

  • The stately entryway, dominated by a grand stairway, leads into the breathtakingly handsome library. Michelangelo's design, unharmed by a grafted-on alcove added later, is almost overwhelming. But instead of feeling miniaturized by the library's Titanic proportions, the effect is rather the opposite. You feel a part of the structure's majestic dignity. Sounds over the top, I know. But try it and see.
  • Fascinating library that brought back to my mind memories from my high-school classes of history of art.
  • Outstanding!
  • WOW! COOOOOOOL!
  • I think here is a brilliant library for mankind.

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
