  • The Horne Museum is a private collection that belonged to Herbert P. Horne, a remarkable man of letters, architect and art critic English, who at the end of his life he moved to Florence to study the Renaissance and was also one of the most enthusiastic promoters of the conservation of the heritage of the city at the end of the 19th century. That passion we can notice in this Museum, which although small in comparison with other Florentine museums, has an interesting collection within which stand out some masterpieces of Giotto, Simone Martini, Bernardo Daddi, Lorenzo de Credi, Benozzo Gozzoli, Desiderio da Settignano, Sansovino, Giambologna and Bernini, in addition to household objects typical of Tuscan homes of the era. The collection is distributed in a renovated Renaissance palace, which belonged to Horne, which gives a sense of unity to the collection, as well as a friendly and allows you to get an idea of how life was at the time. The visit to this museum is not essential, but highly recommended, especially if it seeks to escape from the saturation of people that there are other popular city sites, since it is not usually very visited, but it runs pretty pleasant way and in a short time.

  • Nobody knows him, nobody understood the times, yet it is a Renaissance jewel reviewed according to the taste of the early twentieth century. Come if you love for beauty and want to discover a little-known corner of Florence to the most!

  • I stumbled upon this museum is not part of the routes of mass tourism and worth seeing for its uniqueness. It's a minor Museum in the city, rebuilding some environments of a typical old Florentine House with many antiques, sculptures and especially an impressive collection of paintings on wood of Three and four hundred including a painting by Giotto that Mr HORNE has found by chance in London.

  • Interesting small museum in which they are exposed, in an elegant home, works collections framework with exquisite taste from Herbert Percy Horne, English scholar and art dealer. Beautiful (although the sound isn't perfect) the installation, on the ground floor, brings back Horne and his earthly life. Spotless bathrooms. Backpacks and bulky bags should be left at the checkout.

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
