  • I went there for the first time on the occasion of 59° international iris competition and the garden is truly beautiful and kept very well. Just below the Piazzale Michelangelo in a magnificent setting, it exudes a charming air.

  • We went to Florence to admire the flowering of the Iris (25 April to 21 may-recommended visit) Sunday 21 without thinking that the early spring this year and the changing weather conditions could have done to anticipate the blooms of many varieties. Unfortunately, 90% of the plants were completely withered. Nice this colorful garden and delicately scented place on the slopes of Florence with entrance from Piazzale Michelangelo. Many rhizomes are also of aquatic species. Undoubtedly the show of all flowering varieties must be like a Rainbow in the Earth. And definitely I will have to return to admire (Besides, admission is free, you can leave offerings for the maintenance of the garden by fioricultori volunteers)

  • On the East side of piazzale Michelangelo is the entrance of this beautiful garden where are cultivated exclusively Iris of infinite variety. Every year there is a contest that rewards the most beautiful flowers and those that are closest to color the coat of arms of the city of Florence. After the visit leave the opposite side of the square and go to the rose garden it deserves, perhaps even more than that, a visit

  • The Iris and Rose gardens were amazing. We looked the view here from the Piazza.
  • Just fantastic colours and collection of species Very well worth the visit
  • It was interesting to see that many of the same plant, but it was kind of dry and dusty around the whole grounds.
  • We arrived here with perfect timing. These gardens are not open for much of the year. We visited the garden in the second week of May 2013 and it was a perfectly sunny day with many different Iris flowers to view.
  • Hundreds of varieties of Iris - beautiful colour combinations. Please donate when you visit as it is run by volunteers and it would benefit from funding

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
