  • The colossal sculpture of the god of the sea in a carriage drawn by four horses is surrounded by three young rookies and four figures representing the Doride Oceania with daughter Nereide Teti and two gods of the sea. These numbers are only a strengthening of the central figure, Neptune, in fact, that is the way prenominante other statues. We should note a particular resemblance between the face of Neptune and the face of Cosimo I, known exponent of these achievements by sources considered an expression of prestige and reputation of the Granducato of Florence.

  • A beautiful city ever! So far, after Rome, Florence and the most beautiful cities of Italy. And not go get away from touching the piggy nose:)

  • One of the icons of this city which, at the moment is going through one major restoration so it is not possible to see it. However soon it is discovered it is something that should not miss to visit this city.

  • Cannot believe the amount of people here confusing Stoldo Lorenzi's 'Fountain of the Fork' in the Boboli Gardens with Bartolomeo Ammannati's Fountain of Neptune at Piazza della Signoria. The latter is a collossal marble Neptune based upon Cosimo I de Medici and reflects the Florentine's 16th century naval prowess. It is completely free since it is in a public space, and is always open for the same reason. There are no ducks to feed, maybe the odd pigeon though, but the fountain keeps good comany in the beautiful piazza with the likes of Bandinelli's Hercules and Cellini's Perseus with the head of Medusa (also free). The reason people commenting earlier expected something bigger is because they were looking at a completely different fountain.
  • Cool, seating around this area is great, closed at 730pm EXACTLY, so make sure you have enough time to walk around and make a small picnic.
  • I thought I was going to see the same Statue of Neptune from the pictures but it's just a dirty pond with a very rough ugly statue different from the one in the square. Overgrown with grass. Not at all impressive. I really want my money back.
  • Nice quiet spot to watch the ducks and rest on a bench.
  • Was expecting something a bit more impressive, at least bigger :)

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
