  • Among my beloved paintings by Böcklin's painting, maybe from here is inspired. Place of serenity, an island of meditation to be reviewed during the bloom of the iris, blue sunshine of a spring day, in the gray of winter. Meditating alone or walking with a loved one, in the unending struggle between life and death that distinguishes us.

  • I went here to visit Elizabeth Barrett Browning's grave. It was a little hard to access, as it is in the middle of a traffic circle, but you will be richly rewarded! It is no ordinary graveyard, but a...  more »
  • Opening organized FAI spring day we were able to discover the existence of this place that otherwise we wouldn't have visited. An amazing place not only for its artistic value but for the idea of hospitality linked to his creation. Think about creating a place where they could be welcomed the many foreigners dead in Florence found it a gesture of civility and love.

  • Although the poor old 'English' cemetery has become, in effect, a traffic island, surrounded night and day by traffic, it manages, somehow, to retain a sense of peace. The cemetery is particularly beautiful in the Spring when it is awash with irises.
  • Such a shame that this cemetery had been neglected for years. I admire the people who are trying to restore it. I can only hope in time that people will come together for restoration of what once was a beautiful cemetery with so many important people that gave so much to the world. Was nice to see where Elizabeth Barrett Browning was buried.
  • On the ancient place of the florentine's wall, one of the wonderfull pearl of the necklace around Florence. History, mistery, literature, and the rest of the ancestors.
  • Beautiful
  • An interesting place to visit outside the usual sightseeing.

Where to stay in Florence

Variety is not a problem when deciding where to stay in Florence. The compact town center is packed with hotels, hostels, and small inns. The drawback of this upmarket central area is that even family-run B&Bs often cost as much as luxury hotels. For more affordable lodgings, explore the area outside the tourist-driven city center. Staying in one of the city's residential neighborhoods allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of local Florentines. B&Bs and hotels outside the center offer private parking and spacious rooms, all within walking distance of the main tourist sites.
