Palazzo dei Diamanti, Ferrara
(4.3/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Admire medieval wood-panel paintings, classical words by Garofalo, enormous frescos, and more at Palazzo dei Diamanti, which houses the National Art Gallery of Ferrara. One of the world's most noteworthy Renaissance-era palaces, thousands of pink-veined marble diamonds adorn its reflective facade. Look for paintings from the medieval period through the 18th century, as well as rotating contemporary art exhibits. Don't miss the building's ornate candelabras and the Renaissance courtyard with its cloister and Ferraran marble well. • Along Corso Ercole I d'Este, beautiful Renaissance Palazzo dei Diamanti Street is the most famous attraction; in this period then still more attractive as it hosts the beautiful exhibition "Orlando Furioso 500 years"; an exhibition that takes visitors in an original way in the real world and Ariosto's fantastic paintings by Raphael, Giorgione, Botticelli, Mantegna and others, with maps and tapestries, with the sword of King Francis I of France at the battle of Pavia and more; all valuable pieces in a continuum, excellently illustrated by audio-guide. Not to be missed!
