Le Mura, Ferrara
(4.6/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Built in a triangular shape with sentry towers around the old city's center, Le Mura is standing strong to this day. The ramparts and thick walls are built to resist gunfire. They're topped with turrets where sharp shooters once watched for enemy armies. Inside, paved pathways travel around manicured lawns and the stone foundations of the former town. Enter the fortress using the same gateways that visitors used in the Renaissance: Port of Paola, Port of Angels, or San Giovanni's Port. • Great for those who like to walk out of the movement of cars. Also great for those who want to play sports.

  • I often go to walk on walls or under, in the location that surrounds them, amidst towering trees. Would recommend to anyone, in any season. A green belt that surrounds the city. Along the way, at the "Hangman's House", we see the majestic Castello Estense. Just get off and walk along the full length of the Via Ercole d'Este, the beautiful road with cobblestones. From there you just go through the streets and alleys of the medieval old town and you can also enjoy this splendor. If then the mist shows up then the atmosphere becomes magic.
