Chiesa di Santa Maria in Vado, Ferrara
(4.3/5 based on 55+ reviews on the web)
Santa Maria in Vado is a church located on Via Borgovado number 3 in Ferrara, Region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy.HistoryThe church derives its name from a guado or fording that was located nearby. A church at the site was documented since the tenth century, but on Easter of 1171, a miracle occurred when blood spouted from the eucharist during consecration. This made the church an object of pilgrimage. This miracle that appears to confirm transubstantiation resembles the subsequent events depicted in The Mass at Bolsena by Raphael.Reconstruction was started in 1495 under the patronage of Ercole de' Roberti under the designs of Biagio Rossetti. The church was included in the zone known as the Addizione Erculea. The church contains paintings by Carlo Bononi, Camillo Filippi, Prospero Fontana, Giuseppe Antonio Ghedini, and Domenico Mona.

  • Fortunately or "strategy" is not well signposted, but probably okay. Selfish, maybe not; one more reason to visit. A church that seems reborn to new life by not long, while maintaining the beauty and preciousness; We were also lucky seeing a beautiful ceremony with hymns and organ music. We thank the teacher who has played for his passion and gentleness of selections or agreed upon, in particular for his humility by executor. Did not finish the tour only with the vision of the chapel of the Prodigy (we are located in a path with the miracle of Bolsena) but the various blades including that of the high altar are all to see and appreciate.

  • It's still vivid memories of that morning of may 2012 when after a night of fear for kicks, returning to live in the streets of Ferrara, we ran into crumbled to the ground in front of statue of the Virgin of Santa Maria in Vado. The basilica itself suffered extensive damage inside and remained closed for some time, albeit not entirely restored today is again open to the faithful and tourists. The first group seems to date from the 12th century and the presence of a church is also documented in the year 1000, even before the future Cathedral, and is associated with "miracle" of the precious blood of which remain, for those who believe, the bloodstains in a volticina that has been isolated and placed in a high position, as the Church that we can visit today was built and enlarged more and more by the inspiration of architecture Biagio Rossetti. Inside the Temple in the aisles you will find rich decorations and a highly respected apse frescoed by Carlo Bononi in the 17th century. A monumental organ of ' 500 makes it even more sumptuous.
