  • This Benedictine monastery took its name from the river flowing just off and gave his name to the neighbouring village; Today it is one of the most important religious monuments of Lazio and from 1928 it was declared a national monument for its architectural beauty and the arts. The Abbey Church, which is located in the Centre of the complex, has a Basilica with a Latin cross plan and aisles. The main façade is divided into three sections which mirror the internal aisles and each section is decorated with rosettes and presents a gateway; the central portal, the main one has a marble frame surmounted by a lunette frescoed representative ' Madonna and child, between SS. Benedict and Scholastica, which is crowned by two angels. The Interior is in Baroque style, hosts various works of art from different eras: from the great ' Judgement ', sixteenth-century Flemish school work that occupies the entire façade, there are also the thirteenth-century icon (believed to be miraculous) of Madonna di Farfa, a fine cosmatesque floor, frescoes and the elegant 17th-century choir stalls, the grotesque Zuccari (16th century) in the transept and choir, paintings by Orazio Gentileschi, among others. Really nice and interesting, too bad the prohibition on making photos ... (but I see that it is not highly respected ...)

  • After a week's work I decided to take a trip out of town to visit a few steps from Rome one of the most important monuments of medieval Europe and enjoy a few hours far from the chaos of the city. We recommend a visit lasting approximately one hour interesting and exhaustive to better understand the history of the place. Personally I was fascinated by the library. After a visit to a pleasant walk to the village. Definitely come back for the antiques market every first Sunday of the month.

  • The Abbey-one of the best preserved in Italy-is a really lovely context, between the mountains and without the view of architectural horrors. For Sunday mass (11:00 and 12:00) is very impressive and traditional, accompanied by the singing soave of the brigidine sisters and no more clowning around or pop arrangements. The Abbey is lovely in every aspect, you can take guided tours and enjoy-among other things-a library really beautiful. The village is some "artificial", seems almost built at Cinecittà, but pleasant. Some local craft shop, a couple of restaurants (not to mention). If you like things simple and true, you can eat in the "restaurant" administered by the brigidine sisters offering a hearty lunch and healthy at a reasonable price.
