14 and 16 hours, 11.12 tours. 8 euros each, for children up to 10 years. 2:00 guided tour required if you really want to see this strong. In my opinion deserves to make a visit at night, should be even more impressive.

Back from a weekend in Val di Susa, we decide to stop at the Fort of Exilles, maybe a bit forgotten in Piedmont, but not to be rediscovered. Admission is free for a part and it is also possible for persons accompanied by dogs, but to fully enjoy this wonderful place you should follow one of the guided tours that are organized throughout the day (it is good to inquire in advance, timetables), at a cost of 4 or 8 euros per person. The tour takes about an hour and a half and lets see some parts of otherwise inaccessible: our guide is very good and prepared and managed to interest the public.

The entrance to the Fort is accessible to everyone free of charge, but only up to the courtyard. Recommend a guided tour which lasts about 1 hour when you have the opportunity to visit the Interior, from prisons to the roof. Really interesting and impressive, it's worth it! Attention to the visiting hours.

  • Its a perfectly nice place to visit however when we went every single thing was shut and apart from the actual fort itself there isn't much to look at
  • Just do yourself a favour, and visit this place!
  • Is one of the most important defensive systems of Piedmont, along with the fortress of Fenestrelle, which was used to ups and downs by both the Savoy and both by the French. Its location in the middle of a narrow passage of the Valley in fact made him a threat to both the armies that came down from the upper part of the Valley which for those traveling up from the valley floor. Over the centuries many legends were born around the Fort, but perhaps the most famous of all is the one concerning a mysterious character locked therein (the building also served as prison) between 1681 and 1687. According to tradition, it could be identified with the "iron mask", a character whose identity is still not known. The first to raise the problem it was Voltaire who, during his brief stay in prison the Bastille (1717), learned of the existence of this mysterious character whose face was always covered with a velvet mask and was always well treated by some guards who had been responsible for his surveillance; Voltaire became fascinated by its history, researching that he published in a book. The iron mask to Exilles is also documented by correspondence, survived until our days, between the then French Minister of war and the Governor of the square, where the man in the iron mask lived before Exilles and from where the Governor himself oversaw the transfer to Exilles.

  • Nice to see. One part is free and you can visit on your own. Others are chargeable with a guided tour. Luckily they put the elevator to go up to the Fort.
