The monastery is built on a series of very ancient cisterns that some speculate linked to linked to the worship of Venus ericina tubs. Of the original building retains traces of 14th century Windows and a 15th century portal. In the vestibule are placed various sculptures including a marble group of the Annunciation and Greek and Hebrew inscriptions. The building in the 13th century was the Palace of Chiaramonte family. Benedictine nuns settled here, the first monastic order to settle at Erice. The Church dates back to the early 14th century.

As we all know (or at least almost all!) PIF turned in this lovely Village two summers ago the scenes from his latest movie ("war of love") and in particular the Set of prison scenes were performed in this Location in a dark environment carved into the rock at depth ... ... What is certain is that the whole complex looks lackluster closed but many perimeter walls that can give an idea of its grandeur in the past and those who animated the Spartans local religious then! The explanatory panels that include inside give us information on what this ecclesial structure was! Upon entering, you can give an account ...

Along the main road opens a small road on the left near the entrance to the city. From there you enter the small, white, bright Church of the most Holy Saviour and was part of the monastery of 1300 former residence of Chiaramonte, now in ruins. The Church reopened recently after a long restoration, it is very simple, with a single span the sides of which there are six niches on the thickness of the wall that have become small altars. In one of them is a plaster statue of St Benedict by an unknown artist. Another features a marble Madonna with child, probably Mary school, holding a knotty stick (Silver), many curious. The only altar, very nice, is topped by a magnificent Tabernacle, both sides polychrome marble which has two pairs of plaster statues probably of Peter from the field who worked at Erice in 1700. Above the exit door a choir where the nuns attended mass and accompanied it with religious songs. The balustrade is decorated with floral decorations. Is very impressive, especially for the presence of Madonna holding the stick. Manuela and Alessandro Gori
