Castello de Venere, Erice

(4.1/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy impressive views of Sicily and the sea beyond from atop 12th-century Norman ruins at Castello de Venere. As its name suggests, the castle was constructed on the Temple of Venus, which once served as a area of worship for the Elymian people. Walk along the perimeter walls and among the interior parts that still remain. Keep in mind that the path to reach the top involves steep uphill climbs. The castle is often closed during the winter months, so verify operational hours in advance. • The castle and its ruins are nice but the views of the surrounding area are wonderful. My son loved exploring the winding passages and hidden nooks of the castle. His portents loved the view. What a g...  more »
  • This was a treat! The staff, owners, and the Sicilian fare were equally appealing. We had tried a few restaurants in Erice. This was the best. Indulge yourself.  more »
  • In one tale that cannot be paused. Interiors of the Castle not to visit, bummer. Purchased through ticket for multiple works but not all buildings were open to the public

  • Come here early in the morning for the view across towards the coast. the clouds are just clearing after sunrise and it looks spectacular. There is not much else to see here other than the view. It is really just rubble. But very cool experience for a very cheap price.
  • Fantastic views and history. In this unassuming little town it is the highlight.
  • great view 360 over the entire island in a very pitoresque old town
  • This old castle of Erice is marvelous. Perfect scene for a lot of Photos with a great 360 degree view over the landscape
  • Great for photos of landscape but there isn't that much there actually.
