Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web
Enjoy impressive views of Sicily and the sea beyond from atop 12th-century Norman ruins at Castello de Venere. As its name suggests, the castle was constructed on the Temple of Venus, which once served as a area of worship for the Elymian people. Walk along the perimeter walls and among the interior parts that still remain. Keep in mind that the path to reach the top involves steep uphill climbs. The castle is often closed during the winter months, so verify operational hours in advance. • Above the town of Erice, atop a steep cliff, stands a Norman castle Pepoli-e-Venus, erected in the 12th century on the site of the ancient temple of Venus. Nearby Tower Pepoli, served as a hunting lodge in the 19th century and surrounded by wonderful gardens. Behind the castle is an observation deck, where multicolored patches of fields and edge blue sea near Erice particularly well visible.

  • The charm of the castle is perfectly visible from the outside of the structure. The interiors are inaccessible, the only areas accessible, are the external cortilo of the Castle. It is true, from there you can enjoy a spectacular view over the city of trapani, but you do not need to enter the castle in order to enjoy it. From many other parts of the city of erice, you can enjoy the same view, free

  • Breathtaking view to the rest of the place could be kept better, however it is worth visiting just for the view!
