  • Visit Elva is like coming back to the past, with few words is difficult to define it somewhere with a finger touching the sky the spectacular landscape, shame about the closure of the Valley which was and is part of the beauty of Elva. Advice to those mountain lover to pay it a visit. It is also a country with a history that runs through the mystery ...

  • Were so many years since I was walking Elva and I almost forgot how beautiful this village. The Church, first of all, on which there is little to say, is stupendous, majestically and opened in September, unlike what happens in other churches. Those arriving without knowing anything about the Church, although now it is almost difficult, would remain for sure in Rapture to contemplate the created by Hans Clemer. There are also some souvenirs (packs of cards with various actors) to be acquired in the Church. It would be too superficial however stop at the Church, turning the streets of this slum reveals fabulous views, such as the one leading to the House of meridiana, with buildings that speak of ancient history and Alpine life. Super recommended.

  • The Church-formerly within the cemetery area of the village-is a small building with a Bell Tower, a nave. You enter the Church through a rich portal with splay: the walls of the stone pillars and balusters are equipped with splay bearing brightly carved capitals, attributable to the 14th century. The splayed arch, with original stone creasing sequence traces of decoration colours. The interior reveals itself in all its glory with painted the walls and vaults of the presbytery. These are paintings, largely the work of Flemish painter Hans Clemer (the so called "master of Elva) identified by scholars-starting with the thesis of Pierluigi G-since the eighties of the last century (they focused attention on this artist, putting him in connection with a number of other hard-working artists in Provence and Dauphiné) and deepening the study of works of art of the museums and churches of Saluzzo and its valleys. The frescoes that adorn the presbytery are the ribbed vault of the same-where I pictured the evangelists and the doctors of the Church-opera supposedly a hardworking artist around the 1970s. Then from the walls of the presbytery itself (with depictions of the life of the Virgin) and the apse frescoed wall with a grand and complex Crucifixion by Hans Clemer. On this artist the last great work of study was conducted-after careful restoration of Elva affrechi and our Lady of Mercy del Museo di Casa Cavassa di Saluzzo-by Joan Galante Garrone and Helen Ragusa and published in 2002. Inside the church there are substantial stone carved works: the stoup and baptismal font (works attributed to the brothers Zabreri, industrious in Valley in the 15th century) and also the capitals and cornices of the triumphal arch. The chapel of Saint Pancras is a building added to eighteenth-century nave.
