Trip Planner: Europe / Italy / Friuli Venezia Giulia / Province of Trieste / Duino / Castello di Duino
Standing tall on the cliffs over the Gulf of Trieste, you'll find Castello di Duino, a 14th-century fortification that's been owned by the Della Torre family for over 420 years. Since 2003, it's been open for tours. Visit over 18 of the castle's rooms, where you'll find the spiral Palladio staircase, the 1810 forte-piano played by Liszt, and staggering sea views from the towers. Outside, explore the multilevel park where you'll stroll under cascading Mediterranean flowers and take in a wealth of statuary. You'll also find a bunker built during World War II, as well as a bookstore and snack shop. Looking out over the rocks, you'll see the ruins of the old tenth-century castle originally built on this spot. Castello di Duino is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Duino Edition.

Castello di Duino Reviews
Augusztus egyik szerdáján látogattuk meg a kastélyt. Szerencsénk volt, mert a régi várat nem mindig lehet látogatni, de ezúttal volt rá alkalom, ugyanis csoportosan idegenvezetővel fel lehetett menni.... more »Next we treat ourselves one of Wednesday August Castle. We were lucky, because it is not always possible to visit the old Castle, but this time it was time to go with a guide in groups as could be. The view was beautiful Hungarian aspect, in addition to one of the exhibitions.
Come il Castello di Miramare anche per questo castello la tappa è obbligata. Molti i personaggi che hanno soggiornato in questo maniero. I musicisti Liszt e Strauss, gli scrittori D'Annunzio e Twain, ... more »As the Miramare Castle for this castle this leg is required. Many characters who have stayed in the Manor. The musicians Liszt and Strauss, the writers D'Annunzio and Twain, until the poet Rilke who wrote its Trieste "Elegie" and which gives its name to the scenic trail that a few tens of meters from the Manor runs for about two km to Sistiana offering unforgettable views. On the day of our visit me and my wife we joined (for a small charge) the possibility to visit the ruins of the original Castle perched on a ridge a short distance, and walkable. Enviable small beach at the foot of the Castle and reachable only by boat. Also worth visiting the underground bunker because Duino was chosen as a military base, as a port of call of mini German submarines and then by the British, during and after World War II.

La parte abitati... more »Anyone who has seen the Miramare Castle don't think you see something similar to Duino. Duino Castle is an imposing family residence of the tower and then rate. Living quarters was "engaged" to the tower and the walls of the old Castle until square complex with courtyard and beautiful gardens outside the walls. Beautiful rooms furnished with antique furniture and furnishings. wandering the halls we revisit scenes from old movies. Interesting the room where there are several historical records of the family Torre Tasso; those who first organized the European postal service with a stamp issue and were always the first to carry paying passengers on carriages which carried the mail. Story goes that the word TAXI is derived from the surname TASSI. Wonderful sight both towards Trieste and Miramare Castle's fishermen's Bay at the foot of the Castle. I enjoyed the visit to the Castle Tower as the rooms were poorly equipped rooms; lovely view from the top of the tower. Near there is a WWII German bunker but apart from the place and the particular atmosphere has very little to show. The castle is the entrance fee, is well cared for and also contains a large collection of musical instruments related to characters lived in the Castle, Unfortunately the place is not available for those with limited dexterity or those who must use a wheelchair, especially for outdoor gardens and a visit to buncker
One of the Best Castles I have ever visited. Nice Atmosphere and it's worth visiting.
Located at the beautiful spot. Awesome view.
Nice castle. Definitelly choose to walk on Rilke`s path to it!
Picturesque castle with breathtaking views and nicely decorated interior
It has a very great view and can educate you allot on the war that used this castle.
