Castello di Duino, Duino

(4.5/5 based on 400+ reviews on the web)
Standing tall on the cliffs over the Gulf of Trieste, you'll find Castello di Duino, a 14th-century fortification that's been owned by the Della Torre family for over 420 years. Since 2003, it's been open for tours. Visit over 18 of the castle's rooms, where you'll find the spiral Palladio staircase, the 1810 forte-piano played by Liszt, and staggering sea views from the towers. Outside, explore the multilevel park where you'll stroll under cascading Mediterranean flowers and take in a wealth of statuary. You'll also find a bunker built during World War II, as well as a bookstore and snack shop. Looking out over the rocks, you'll see the ruins of the old tenth-century castle originally built on this spot. • With a group of friends visited, the only part open to the public, the castle of Duino. Current residence dei principi Della Torre e Tasso, in an enviable position and panoramic sea views. View from the terrace a delight, in the distance, the Dolomites and the opposite of the Gulf of Trieste until punta Salvore. Spectacular.

  • On a sunny day we visited the castle of Duino. Well preserved Interior, kinda undress but interesting. The views are beautiful from all sides, but especially from the poet Rilke; He dedicated the two paths, from where you can see in the distance, the ruins of the old Castle.

  • The castle is well kept and it was very interesting to visit and learn about noble owners dynasty Princes Torre e Tasso, finding information on the agreement in October 1954 when the free territory of Trieste became Italian territory. I even had the pleasure of knowing the Princess Veronique.
