Standing tall on the cliffs over the Gulf of Trieste, you'll find Castello di Duino, a 14th-century fortification that's been owned by the Della Torre family for over 420 years. Since 2003, it's been open for tours. Visit over 18 of the castle's rooms, where you'll find the spiral Palladio staircase, the 1810 forte-piano played by Liszt, and staggering sea views from the towers. Outside, explore the multilevel park where you'll stroll under cascading Mediterranean flowers and take in a wealth of statuary. You'll also find a bunker built during World War II, as well as a bookstore and snack shop. Looking out over the rocks, you'll see the ruins of the old tenth-century castle originally built on this spot. With our international travel planner, Duino attractions like Castello di Duino can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • .. a historic castle well preserved. Still privately owned by the Thurn und Taxis family needs a couple of hours for a complete visit. Easy to reach, good parking, interesting guided tour to book. It is possible to rent the restaurant for private events. I will be back

  • Very well presented castle which is currently a private home too. Very enjoyable visit
  • Affascinante castello, curatissimo con un panorama splendido e dei giardini mozzafiato.
  • Been there on detachment
  • Going back when I come to Gorizia at home, always a fascinating place, remember the history of our land, linked to occupations, nobility and ties to the Austrian Empire. Less famous than Miramare, I think you deserve to be admired. When waves the flag marks that the principles are present in the dwelling. Also home to the famous University in the world.

  • Nothing to envy to the most famous Miramare. More quiet and relaxed bar. Not to be missed.
