Historic Site
Hike through Italy's wilderness to find Area Archeologica di Tiscali, an archeological site with the ruins of ancient round cave dwellings. Inhabited up until Roman times, the dwellings have since been robbed of artifacts--but you can still explore the original caves. Reaching the site requires a trek starting from either Oliena or south of Dorgali. Many visitors claim the Dorgali route is easier to follow, and you likely will not need a guide to point the way. Plan your Area Archeologica di Tiscali visit and explore what else you can see and do in Dorgali using our Dorgali vacation route planner.

  • Excursion small/medium difficulty suitable for everyone of all ages. you arrive by car to the foot of Mount ... a walk up to Tiscali which you can do in an hour or so with a bland and some pause. path is not hard but a little tear up if done during warm weather could become tiring. How do you get to the archaeological site, an experienced guide tells you in a few minutes all you need to know ... below a small path around makes you enjoy the site ... But what remains even more spectacular are the different landscapes that are seen throughout the process. to do, I highly recommend

  • I wanted to visit the site on my own with the intention of accessing it from the Lanaittu Valley, then with my partner we left armed with great enthusiasm of the right clothing and a guide book etc. Follow the Guide, unless referred to wooden signs that unfortunately no longer existed. We covered the ridge of the mountain without finding any reference or indication, then after a few hours of walking in circles, we came back tired but not resigned. The following day at last, maybe with some luck and sense of orientation, I was able to find access to Tiscali. Asking some people we met, they explained that "the signage is put by the municipality and continually removed by locals who don't want tourists to break the boxes" HALLUCINATING (do not add more to this beautiful population of which I also married a representative ehehe!!!) Advice for those who want the adventure of accessing it from the Valley of Lanaittu like us, search for access to the left of the mountain, where a small valley that turned to the right, leads to the trail and then the slope scale Surtana Dorgali, in fact here are more references and it's easier to get to the beautiful village of Tiscali.
