  • Custonaci, a small town between Trapani and San Vito lo Capo, standing on a hill overlooking the sea ... that alone makes the idea of absolute tranquility of the place and its people. In the middle of this country a church, you get closer and you see a square only. River stones that placed by hand with care and expertise, one by one, forming geometric designs different from one another. Already this invites you to enter. The word that springs to mind is: awesome! A Baroque church with a wonderful marble altar adorned with sculptures, in the Centre a painting of the end of ' 400 attributed to the school of Antonella da Messina. A Lady of the place approached us and began to tell us about history and legend. The legend is that the Virgin Mary suckling the Child has been donated by a group of French sailors who risked a shipwreck near the beach. The picture was uploaded on a wagon and oxen were that indicated where to store it, a chapel on the top of the mountain. Being the territory belonging to the town of Erice, claimed the property and claimed it was mass in his Church. Since then the dispute continues, and told the inhabitants of Custonaci, that their old ranged round with Lumpy sticks to use if the ricotta pie ... Copy of the work is in the Museum of Erice and is preserved as if it were the original ... The Church was enlarged at the beginning of ' 900 and enriched with marmorino to adjust to real existing marbles. Every year at the end of August the reenactment begins with a Galleon that arrives by sea, a copy of the picture is given to boats below and posted to an ox cart that transports it to the Church. In addition to folklore that revolves around. The Church is beautiful, even, the canvas is beautiful. Visit not to be missed. Manuela and Alessandro Gori

  • Very very nice sanctuary. Imperious and decorated with colored marbles really worth a visit. We went to mass, but it was very nice to see the inside despite the grandeur remains sober. Not to be missed

  • The sanctuary of Custonaci is a jewel of art and beauty that opens the heart to prayer and contemplation. Had a look at the main nave, in fact, you immediately feel that you are in God's House that under its vaults times gathers all the children under one family. In addition, the painting of the Madonna with child is wonderful, full of details that refer to the Trinity. If in the area, it is a must!
