  • This is a funeral monument located along the route of the ancient via Appia and its popular name comes from the shape that recalls the Distaff (or time) which is used to spin. The Tomb dates from the 2nd century a.d. and with good approximation is equipped with eleven niches where the urns. According to tradition here were deposited the remains of Flavia Domitilla, the matron granddaughter of Vespasian, persecuted by Domitian as Christian. The mausoleum is one of the most significant monuments which have survived retaining its original character; Since the significant renovations made during the reign of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon and also subsequent ones have preserved facilities not altering basically the original appearance.

  • imposing and ancient historical monument that is located along the via Appia. Nice to see when going by car. Stop is useless because as usual we southerners emphasize anything

  • Beautiful monument just steps from the Royal Palace of Caserta. Two thousand years of history and not to hear them. To visit.

  • Cute but small mausoleum that breaks the continuity of the pedestrian pace causing some discomfort. It is also closed to the public except on rare occasions.

  • According to Wikipedia, Curti, owes its reputation (I wonder, such notoriety?) right at the Distaff. All kidding aside, this is a very ancient funerary monument dating from the second century after Christ. Some urban legends about the Distaff indicate that both the entry of a set of steps that lead up to Rome. When I visited, I noticed only the eleven niches but my search was not determined due to lack of time. As someone has already said there are no signs it might be a good descriptions, in fact half to visit, if you are passing between Caserta and Santa Maria Capua Vetere and vice versa.
